My Story: Amy Ganote

"Dec 1, 2010 I had a colonoscopy due to having symptoms for over 1.5 years. Since there is no cancer in my family and I was only 40 when my symptons started (mainly blood in my stool), I ignored my symptons.

When I woke up from my colonoscopy, I was told the doc had found 2 polyps and a tumor in my colon. I was then asked, where did I want to have my follow up ultra sound performed at? So my schedule was the following for that week: Dec 1 Wed - colonoscopy; Dec 2 Thur - ultrasound/blood work at hospital; Dec 3 Fri - consult with the surgeon.

Two weeks later, on Dec 16th, I had colon cancer surgery that removed part of my colon and the tumor. I was very lucky. No chemo, and no radiation.

I had my 1 year follow up colonoscopy last week, were the doc found 1 polyp (waiting on the biopsy).

In 1 month and 3 days, I will be 1 year cancer free!!"

My Story: Kimberly Young

"Sunday October 30 will be 1 year that my mom has been gone. Debbie Young was 53, She started to feel sick around August but just thought it was a pulled muscle when she finally went to the doctor. In September and found out she had the final stages of Colon cancer it had already spread to her liver. They gave her 3 months She passed away 3 weeks later. Debbie was a wife, mother of 3 girls and a grandma to 3 grandkids. She was loved by so many. It was a real shock to everyone who knew her. Walking in the walk away from colon cancer in August really helped us in the grieving process. I hope this story will help save lives."
